The BTI Access Node provides the distribution of bandwidth for your high-speed edge network services. It incorporates the ruggedness required for the harsh transit environments while being reliable, expandable, and serviceable with a minimalist design. The unit is built on a platform of industry standard devices, components, and BTI chassis shapes.
The Ethernet switch allows edge devices to operate at high speeds beyond the distance limitation imposed by station layouts. The BTI Access Node incorporates either one or two 8-port Ethernet switches, reducing the number of ports consumed on existing Ethernet edge and core switches in the main communications room.
The BTI Access Node provides several different (wired and wireless) needs within a station LAN deployment. It provides edge device network connectivity over standard Category 5/5e/6 cabling, along with dedicated power wiring. And it connects to existing networks using Fiber or Gig E copper. Connections to client devices are made by standard Category 5/5e/6 cabling infrastructure; no special connectors, cable tests, or connections are required.
The BTI Access Node also provides a reduced amount of distributed power conduits and cables—AC to DC rectification, Power over Ethernet (PoE), and optional 48VDC MidSpan Injector modules—eliminating concerns related to voltage drop associated with long runs of DC cabling. The MidSpan Injector modules provide fused 48VDC power to an edge device, such as a Help Point Unit. The fused power is either injected into a Category cable via the RJ45 Equipment Jack, or over external wiring via a terminal connection.
